Association of Public Health Observatories (APHO)
APHO represents
and co-ordinates a network of 12 public health observatories (PHOs)
working across the five nations of England, Scotland, Wales, Northern
Ireland and the Republic of Ireland. They are the focus for joint
public health intelligence work with organisations across these nations,
and those working in Europe and beyond. APHO facilitates joint working
across the PHOs to produce information, data and intelligence on
people's health and health care for practitioners, policy makers and the
wider community. High quality public health intelligence is central to
both local and central government health policy and decision-making.
Health Profiles are produced annually to give a snapshot of health
in local areas. They are designed to help local government and PCTs
tackle health inequalities and improve people's health.

Health Protection Agency
The Health
Protection Agency (HPA) is an independent body that protects the health
and well-being of the population. The Agency plays a critical role in
protecting people from infectious diseases and in preventing harm when
hazards involving chemicals, poisons or radiation occur. Prepare for
new and emerging threats, such as a bio-terrorist attack or virulent new
strain of disease.

The NHS Next Stage
Review is about shaping the NHS over the next decade. The aim of this
national review is to identify a world-class 21st century NHS which puts
the patient first and listens to local people. Healthy Ambitions is the
outcome of the regional review in Yorkshire and the Humber to create
better health and a better health service.

Evidence
NHS Evidence provides
free access to clinical and non-clinical information - local, regional,
national and international. Information includes evidence, guidance
and Government policy. NHS staff who have an Athens account can also
get free access to paid for journals. NHS Evidence also provides access
to 34
specialist collections which cover a wide range of common medical
conditions, topics and health populations, and which were formerly part
of the National Library for Health.”
National Library for Health
The mission of
the National Library for Health (NLH) is to help patients and
professionals use best current knowledge in decision-making. The
library consists of three main resources:

Commitment of 1275 librarians who know the
local communities, and their needs and priorities.

National digital knowledge base, including
Evidence Based Reviews, Guidance, Books, Journals, Bibliographic
Databases (Medline, Cinahl etc), Images, Drugs and information for
patients.

Users, organised in communities of practice,
which manage the

Public health
programme and intervention guidance, together with many Health
Development Agency publications.
National Library for Public Health
The library is
being developed to provide high quality evidence e-based information on
all aspects of public health. It is designed for those working in the
field of public health by providing a single source of access to web
based evidence on public health. The resources for the
three priority areas of Tobacco, Obesity and Alcohol are fully available
and other Choosing Health topic areas will be added shortly.
PHORCast
Public Health Online Resource for Careers, Skills and Training
The PHORCaST website has been created to help recruit, retain and
develop the careers of people working in public health (including health
and wellbeing) at all levels, and working in all sectors. It provides
people and organisations with a wide-ranging source of information about
roles and careers in public health, and it provides advice about how to
assess your current position and how you might develop your skills and
knowledge through education and training.

Yorkshire
and Humber Teaching Public Health Network
The Yorkshire and Humber Teaching Public Health
Network (YHTPHN) is one of 9 regional Networks established in 2006 by
the Department of Health to increase teaching capacity and capability
for the wider public health workforce. On this site you will be able to
join the network, find out about upcoming events via the online
calendar, download information on previous events, access information
about learning and development opportunities in the region and YHTPHN
work on promoting healthy learning environments.
