Staying HealthyLearning DisabilitiesLocal Initiatives Hambleton and Richmondshire The following initiatives are taking place:
An award winning Keeping Safe pack has been devised and this is in use for all adults with Learning Disabilities. Person Centred Reviews are standard for all students from Year 9 upwards in 1 out of the 2 Special Schools in the locality, and Health Action Plans are offered to all students about to leave school. We will shortly be appointing a Symbolic Language Advisor, initially for one year. The Advisor will look at how to make all information more accessible for people with communication difficulties across the Hambleton and Richmondshire locality, and look at the feasibility of long term funding from all providers who require this service. Physiotherapy - Hydrotherapy sessions Joint working with leisure centre staff to promote access to gym and swimming sessions for adults with physical disabilities. Scarborough, Whitby and Ryedale A community activity and information website for people with learning disabilities has been established in the Scarborough, Whitby and Ryedale area. The website gives advice and support on topics including learning and community activities, useful contacts, help with employment, planning a holiday and a message board.
