Hotspots Affordable Warmth Referral Scheme

Hotspots

The Affordable Warmth County Group for North Yorkshire and York has established a Hotspots referral scheme, similar to other successful schemes in the region.

Health professionals and other frontline staff are well placed to identify patients who may be experiencing physical and mental symptoms of fuel poverty. The Hotspots scheme offers frontline staff an opportunity to refer consenting patients, via a simple referral card, for support and advice to help tackle fuel poverty. The card requires the visiting frontline staff to ask the resident three simple questions:

  • HotspotsWould you like information on home insulation and heating grants?

  • Would you like advice on claiming entitlements (benefits)?

  • Would you like a home fire safety check?

Warning signs within the household may include:

Cold temperature in the home.

Staying in bed to keep warm or wearing extra clothes in bed.

Debt.

Prepayment meters.

Wanting to stay in hospital because it is more comfortable.

Damp patches or mould growth or you can smell the damp and mould.

Who may be more at risk?

Older people

Children

Disabled people

Those with Long term medical conditions; respiratory illness, heart disease, stroke and those who have recently fallen

Please refer them for help!

The card will be sent by free post to the Energy Saving Trust advice centre, which will either contact the householder directly or refer to a partner organisation for additional services.

For further information regarding the Hotspots scheme, please contact the Energy Saving Trust advice centre on 0800 512 012.
